One of the most common questions I get is:
“How do we maintain a hand-knotted rug once it’s in our home?”
The honest answer?
If a rug is well made, care is simple, not complicated.
📌 Here’s what actually matters:
1. Daily Living Is Not the Enemy
Hand-knotted rugs are meant to be lived on.
Walking, furniture, movement — all of this is normal.
These rugs are built to handle daily use, not protected from it.
2. Regular Vacuuming Is Enough
Vacuum gently, once or twice a week.
No beater bars. No aggressive settings.
You’re removing surface dust, not scrubbing the rug.
3. Rotate Occasionally
Every 6–12 months, rotate the rug.
This helps ensure even wear and even exposure to light — especially in sunny rooms.
4. Spills: Act Calmly, Not Quickly
Blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth.
No rubbing. No harsh chemicals. No panic.
Most natural fibres respond well to simple, gentle handling.
5. Washing Is Not Frequent, But Important
A proper professional wash every few years is enough.
Washing doesn’t damage a good rug — it revives it.
It removes deep-set dust, refreshes fibres, and restores balance.
6. Trust the Craft
Well-knotted rugs don’t fall apart easily.
They’re designed to tighten, settle, and age gracefully over time.
If a rug feels fragile to own, it wasn’t made well to begin with.
A good hand-knotted rug doesn’t demand attention.
It quietly supports the space and gets better the longer it stays.
